Billing codes from notes: useful or risky?
Should documentation tools suggest billing context, or is that too risky without admin review?
I do not want a system automatically deciding billing codes from clinical text. That creates too much risk and too many edge cases.
What I do want is clearer documentation. If the note explains what happened, our billing team asks fewer follow-up questions and the consultant is interrupted less.
Most billing friction in my clinic is not because admin staff cannot use the billing system. It is because my note was too thin after a busy list.
Microdoc helps if it makes the clinical note more complete before the billing team sees it. I would still keep the final billing decision separate.
The safe split is important. The consultant signs the clinical record. Admin reviews billing. A tool can support both, but it should not blur accountability.
Microdoc is attractive because the clinical side becomes clearer first. After that, billing can work from a better source document.
The letter quality matters more than people think. If the GP letter or insurer letter is vague, admin ends up checking details with the consultant later.
A better draft means I can spot missing context earlier. Microdoc helps because the draft is not just a raw transcript.
